Privacy Policy UNESCO World Heritage sites in Germany
1. Introduction
Mobile-Etage GmbH („Mobile-Etage“, „We“, „Us“ or „Our“) values Your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how We collect, use, and disclose information when You use Our Mixed Reality application „UNESCO World Heritage sites in Germany“ („Application“). By using Our Application, You agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
2. Definitions
- Application: The software program „UNESCO World Heritage sites in Germany“ developed by Mobile-Etage GmbH, available for Meta Quest and Pico devices.
- Company: Mobile-Etage GmbH, responsible for the Application.
- Device: Any virtual reality headset compatible with the Application, including Meta Quest and Pico devices.
- Personal Data: Any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
- Usage Data: Automatically collected data generated by the use of the Application.
- Meta Account: The user account required to download and access the Application via the Meta Quest Store.
- Pico Account: The user account required to download and access the Application via the Pico Store.
- Unity Netcode: The networking solution used to enable multiplayer functionality.
3. Data We Collect
We collect and process the following data categories strictly necessary for the functioning of the Application. The Application accesses and processes certain platform-specific features (USER_ID and USER_PROFILE on Meta Quest devices, User ID and username on Pico devices) and other data as detailed below. We do not permanently store Meta Account data or Pico Account data on our servers.
a) Usage Data
- Multiplayer session codes generated for room-based connections (handled via Unity Netcode).
- IP addresses for establishing multiplayer connections (Unity Netcode may process these for session management).
- Aggregated statistics on Application usage, performance, and crashes via Meta Developer Hub and Pico Developer Platform.
b) Sensor and Tracking Data
To enable the Mixed Reality experience and multiplayer functionality, the Application accesses the following data in real-time:
- Microphone: Voice chat transmission in multiplayer mode. Voice data is transmitted in real-time and not recorded or permanently stored.
- Hand tracking and controller input: To enable interactions in the Application.
- Spatial tracking: Used for Mixed Reality rendering and processed locally on the device without transmission to our servers.
c) Platform Account Data (Meta Account / Pico Account)
The Application accesses platform-specific features to retrieve and display your account name in multiplayer mode:
- On Meta Quest devices: USER_ID and USER_PROFILE from Meta Platform Features
- On Pico devices: User ID and username from Pico Platform SDK
This data is:
- Retrieved only when needed for display during multiplayer sessions.
- Not permanently stored on our servers.
- Not shared with third parties for advertising or analytics.
- Processed solely for the purpose of showing player names in multiplayer sessions.
You may request confirmation or deletion of any account data we process by contacting us at hallo@mobile-etage.de or by disconnecting the Application from your account through your Meta privacy settings or Pico privacy settings respectively.
d) Web Browsing Data
The Application includes a WebView component that allows access to external websites such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, and www.germany.travel. We do not track or store Your browsing activity, but these external sites may collect data according to their own privacy policies.
e) Analytics Data via Firebase
We use Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymized data about how users interact with the Application. The purpose is to improve usability, user guidance, and feature optimization. The following types of events are tracked:
- Tutorial Navigation: e.g., continuing or returning in the tutorial flow.
- Menu Interactions: such as opening settings, avatar selection, or multiplayer configuration.
- World Heritage & Route Selection: selecting heritage sites or routes.
- Accessibility and Language Settings: adjusting font size, enabling screen reader or contrast modes.
- Mixed Reality Activation: enabling/disabling MR mode.
- Media Interactions: playing videos, panoramas, or 3D content.
- Multiplayer Activity: creating/joining lobbies, connection events.
- WebView Tracking: opening external links (e.g. YouTube, Instagram, DZT website).
- Miscellaneous: hiding/showing UI, starting the 10-minute experience, and avatar selections.
All data is event-based, aggregated and anonymized, and does not contain personally identifiable information. IP addresses are anonymized before any processing. Firebase does not allow us to associate this data with individual users.
Firebase Analytics automatically generates and stores an anonymous app instance ID to track user sessions and may collect device information (device model, operating system). This data is retained according to our Firebase data retention settings (currently set to 14 months) and is automatically deleted thereafter.

4. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell or share Your Personal Data. However, the following third parties may process data as part of the Application’s functionality:
- Unity Netcode (for multiplayer connectivity and IP address processing).
- Meta Developer Hub (for anonymized analytics, crash reports, and download statistics on Meta devices).
- Pico Developer Platform (for anonymized analytics, crash reports, and download statistics on Pico devices).
- External Websites (if accessed via the WebView component).
- Google Firebase Analytics: Used to collect anonymized data on user interactions with the Application. All data is processed according to Google’s privacy standards and helps improve user experience, stability, and content relevance.
- Deutsche Zentrale für Tourismus e. V. (DZT): May receive anonymized statistics regarding Application downloads and usage trends.
Data Processors / Service Providers:
The Application relies on the services of Meta (for USER_ID and USER_PROFILE on Meta Quest devices), Pico (for User ID and username on Pico devices), Unity (for multiplayer network traffic), and Google (for Firebase Analytics). These providers may technically process data in order to deliver their services. All providers are contractually or legally bound to apply adequate data protection safeguards according to GDPR and the respective platform requirements.
All data shared with third parties is anonymized, and no personally identifiable information is transferred.
5. Important Note to Parents or Guardians
We encourage parents or guardians to take an active interest in their children’s use of VR platforms. Their involvement is essential to help ensure a safe and rewarding experience for their children.
6. Security
We value your trust in providing us your personal information and strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect it. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
7. Children’s Privacy
These services do not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will promptly delete it from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and you become aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take necessary actions.

The Application may contain links to external websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please review their respective privacy policies.
9. User Rights
Even though we do not permanently store Meta Account Data or Pico Account Data, you have rights under applicable data protection laws (GDPR). These include the right of access, rectification, restriction of processing, and deletion.
You can also manage your account settings directly through Meta’s platform or Pico’s platform respectively.
10. Request to Delete Your Personal Data
Since no Meta Account Data or Pico Account Data is permanently stored by us, there is usually no data left to delete regarding your account information. For Firebase Analytics data, which consists only of anonymized usage events and device information, users can:
- Reset their device’s Advertising ID to disconnect from previous analytics data
- Contact us at hallo@mobile-etage.de for confirmation that no personal data is stored
- Request deletion of any potentially stored analytics data, though such data is anonymized and automatically deleted after 14 months
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We keep our Privacy Policy under regular review and may update or modify it at any time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the modified Privacy Policy on the Service. By continuing to use the Service, you will be bound by the modified Privacy Policy. You are encouraged to check the terms of our Privacy Policy whenever you access the Service.
